Poem_ Wolves and Humans

I wrote this for an ecology project, but I think it's an okay poem, so I decided to post it on here:

Long ago our population soared.
Our packs spaced out,
All around the world.
The Natives treated us well,
And respected out ways.

Back then the climates were constant.
Pollution didn’t raid out health.
We were strong and clever
And prospered happily,
Until a new species came into our biome.

It was difficult for us to adapt,
To the new lifestyles set before us.
Soon the mammals we chose for prey
Started to dwindle.
Food for our family was harder to find.

We would go after livestock
When nothing else could be found.
But the humans would shoot,
Trap, poison, and kill us,
Just because we tried to survive.

Now our numbers are low,
And we are placed under
Protection by the few that care.
We’ve gained some back over the years,
But still need protection from the
Warm-blooded killers who hate us for what we are.

While the birds fly into the sky
And cold-blooded animals live their lives,
We are slowly being taken from our community;
Maybe never to return.

One day you may never hear our howl,
Or see us playing with out pack members,
If the humans continue
To live the way they do.
