A Sound Long Lost

Into a wilderness
long lost by years
now found by a
small, curious girl.
The moon is full,
it's rising high.
Many small creatures
running amuck.
A strange sound was what
lured the girl into the wilderness.
A sound that hasn't been heard
for hundreds of thousand years.
Curious was the girl;
as much as adventurous,
full of yearn for discovery.
She walked through the wilderness.
she gained many cuts and bruises.
But minor wounds wouldn't stop her
from finding the source of the sound.
She stopped for a moment
and she looked around.
Yet again came the sound.
A beautiful howl,
not short and broken,
like a coyote or Jackal.
But smooth and connected;
A sound long lost.
the girl looked to the west,
and to her utter amazement,
there stood a beautiful sight.
The creature was larger than a dog,
and yet it was smaller than a bear.
with its ears tucked back,
and its tail hung high,
the creature howled to the night sky.
It was then that the girl knew,
this beautiful creature,
was the long lost wolf.
