How an old wooden chair looks to a tired person, a termite, and an antique collecter
Where has the time gone? It seems like just yesterday that my husband died. And yet, it’s been at least twenty years. But the wooden chair he gave me for our first anniversary is still in good condition, even if it looks old. Just looking at it gives me comfort and I know that my husband is happy in heaven looking over our children and me. They are all grown and have their own families now. My grandchildren love the old chair as much just like my children had. Every time they stop and visit I pick them up and set them in my lap while I rock in the chair. Often I tell stories to them when they beg it of me. Now I sit on the porch, exhausted, in the old wooden chair while drinking my green tea wondering where the time has gone.God, I’m hungry! All the food I’ve been able to find was too new for me. And it had some distasteful smell on it. I think the humans called it polisher. Bad for my digestive system though, so I have got to stay away from wood like that. Hey! There’s an old wooden chair! As I sniff it I smell no evidence of the icky polisher. Yay, time to eat!
I decided to take a walk down the countryside. There’s always some farm that will have antique items for my store. Best thing is that they’ll sell their items for cheap and then I can sell them for a lot more. What a profit! I notice a small farmhouse. Wow, this place looks old. Ah, I see a nice antique chair on the porch. It must be at least fifty years old. I wonder if I can get that elderly lady to sell it to me. She is drinking something and she looks as if she is in a great mood, so maybe this would be the best time. Yes, I might just get lucky.
